REVIEW: CHILD & YOUTH CONFERENCE IN LEUVEN

2/7/2025

On February 5-6, 2025, BUILD CARE members attended the “Pathways for Future Generations: Bridging Science, Practice, and Societal Challenges” conference, organized by the KU Leuven Child and Youth Institute to celebrate the university’s 600th anniversary.

BUILD CARE member Ann Heylighen, alongside Laura Vandenbosch, coordinated the session ‘Bricks and Bytes – Exploring the Physical and Digital Environment of Children’, with Andrea Jelic introducing the role of the physical environment. Several BUILD CARE members presented parts of our research:

  • Piet Tutenel & Birgit Moser: “The Space Between Procedural and Situated Ethics: Reflecting on the Use of Existing Materials in Design Research on Children Affected by Stroke”

  • Anna-Theresa Renner: “A Multinational Survey on Childhood Stroke: Economic Implications and Wellbeing of Affected Families”

  • Lisa Bartha-Doering & Pleuntje Jellema: “Multiple Disciplinary Perspectives on Landscapes of Care: Exploring the Physical Environment’s Role in Families Navigating Childhood Stroke”

The session concluded with a lively panel discussion. The conference was a great opportunity for BUILD CARE members to engage with experts and contribute to ongoing discussions on the well-being in the social and buit environments of children and youth.
